Problems: Gurgling noises when water drains, toilet backs up into shower
Know your options. With today’s technology, getting your pipes fixed shouldn’t include demolishing major parts of your home. I’m so glad I chose pipe lining!
After vacationing in South Florida for two decades, Kris decided to become a full time resident in 2018. She bought an updated bungalow in one of her favorite neighborhoods and quickly settled into the active retired lifestyle she had always dreamed of.
Shortly after moving, however, her dream home became a bit of a nightmare.
Kris noticed gurgling noises after a toilet was flushed or water drained from her bathroom sink. At first, the problem was nothing more than an annoying sound but within a few months, she was having backups, overflows, and sewage in her shower.
She did the only thing she knew to do; she called a plumber. The plumber “cleared the blockage” and the drains started working well – for about two months.
“The same thing kept happening. I’d have a backup, call a plumber, get the blockage cleared and think it was solved.” Kris recounts. “But then it would happen again, even worse.”
She had two different plumbers clear the blockages. “When it happened the third time, I said – this is insane; I need to know what’s really going on.”
Kris contacted a plumbing inspector who informed her she would need her existing pipelines removed and replaced with new ones. He reported finding significant decay in the home’s cast iron pipes along with several cracks. “The cost of the new pipes was five figures and it was going to take over three weeks!” says Kris.
“Shocked, are you kidding me? But I was not as upset about the cost of the repairs until I heard what they intended to do to my vintage terrazzo floors and new cabinetry.” Her eyes widen. “They were going to jackhammer around the pipes to dig them up.” As she tells the story, she shivers as if it still concerns her. “There was no way my jacked up floors would ever be the same. I would have to get tile or laminate everywhere they dug. Basically, I’d have to refloor the entire house and have my walls repaired once it was over.”
Desperate for another option, Kris turned to the internet for some advice. That’s where she found PipeLining.com and a local plumbing contractor that specializes in trenchless pipe lining. She immediately read dozens of trenchless pipelining reviews to see what real customers thought of it. “I never heard of such a thing,” Kris remembers, “You better believe I called them fast!”
She was impressed by the information she received over the phone and scheduled a video inspection with the contractor.
“Well, this was a completely different experience from what had gone on with the previous plumbers. These guys came out and put the camera down the pipes, they checked to see where the toilets and sinks were and looked in my laundry area. They were absolute gentlemen, even when they told me my pipes were a total mess.”
The drainage pipes were heavily scaled and showed areas of channeling, cracks, and buildup. The lining company confirmed the diagnosis of the original inspection.
“Only they had an entirely better way to fix this crazy pipe situation!” Kris can’t help but get excited as she tells about her experience. “Pipe lining saved my floors and cabinets – the crew worked mostly from the outside and also through my toilets to inject new lines inside of the old crappy ones.” Kris laughs about her pun. She’s relieved that her home was a good candidate for rehabilitation instead of removal and replacement.
“Yeah, it wasn’t cheap, but it was not as expensive as pipe replacement. Plus, I didn’t have to do an extreme makeover on my house afterwards. That’s where I really saved.”
“If I could tell every single homeowner about pipe lining, I would.” The grandmother of two says she is thrilled with the results. “Three days, that’s all it took. Three days, not three weeks! And I stayed home with a working toilet and shower. They made sure I had a bathroom to use each night.”
It has been over a year since trenchless pipe lining was installed. Kris has not had a backup, nor does she hear the dreaded gurgle coming from her pipes. Her contractor provided a warranty and she feels confident that her pipe rehabilitation will help her enjoy her bungalow for many years to come.
“I wouldn’t even consider wrecking my house to replace pipes. In fact, my son was having problems in his house up in New Jersey and I told him to call a pipe lining plumber right away. Long story short, he’s having the pipes lined next week. I should be the spokesperson for pipe lining.” Kris laughs and follows up with, “Seriously, you should make me the ambassador of pipes. All of these homes have bad pipes and I’m telling the entire neighborhood to go to PipeLining.com.”
As Kris declared, “People need to know they have a choice. You can tear up your house and replace the pipes, or you can put new lines inside your old ones.” Her best advice? “Know your options. With today’s technology, getting your pipes fixed shouldn’t include demolishing major parts of your home. I’m so glad I chose pipe lining.”
