CME Pipelining & Sewer Repair, serves the greater Cincinnati, Ohio region. They specialize in trenchless pipe restoration for homes, commercial buildings, and municipal projects.
Established in 1999 by plumbing contractor Charles Menkhaus, CME originally practiced conventional plumbing methods such as removing and replacing sewer pipes. But that changed when Menhaus learned about pipelining.
Operations manager Rachel Fyffe says that while the company was quite successful with traditional plumbing, the invasive and destructive nature of pipe replacement was difficult on their customers. “No one realizes how deep the trenches could be or how much dirt will be displaced. The landscaping might be permanently disrupted in order to remove old lines.”
A similar situation happens inside a home/building undergoing pipe replacement. Walls are cut open to expose the failed pipes, but before that can happen, cabinetry, tile, and anything in between may need to be removed. Flooring is another finish that often gets demoed in order for trenches to be dug so pipelines can be removed and replaced. Slab foundations can be especially compromised throughout the process.
These tremendously inconvenient and costly side effects are what prompted CME to become champions for Greater Cincinnati pipe repair, namely, trenchless plumbing technology, specializing in cured-in-place pipe lining. The procedure is much less invasive and saves property owners time and money.
Since pipelining can utilize and rehabilitate the existing pipelines, little interference is needed. Flexible tubes are saturated in an epoxy resin, then navigated through the old lines and installed to seal out cracks, leaks, tree roots and more.
Some pipe lining jobs are completed as quickly as one day. Still, CME goes the extra mile to ensure outstanding service. Fyffe says, “We do the little things that make a big impact on the customer’s experience. We use floor protection, wall protection, and leave no trace when the job is done. Communication throughout the company plays a big part in CME’s success. We are transparent with our team and our customers.”
The product has a life use expectancy of 50 years, making it a comparable alternative to pipe replacement. The method has proven to be a perfect long-term solution for an array of properties, including vintage homes, established neighborhoods, and homes with lush landscaping or hardscapes.
CME is seeing major demand from commercial and industrial properties, noting that they are lining more process pipes each year. Since their range of serviceable pipe sizes is between 3-inches and 84-inches in diameter, the company is equipped to handle most demands. Their state-of-the-art facilities accommodate a large team, massive equipment, and comfortable meeting and training areas.
As a longtime advocate for industry education, CME has been investing in public awareness since they took the plunge to make CIPP (cured-in-place pipe) their primary service back in 2010. They sponsor radio and print ads and more in order to reach property owners in the greater Cincinnati region.
Fyffe gives the “why” behind their outreach efforts, “We want our customers to think of us as an honest company that takes the time to educate them instead of just getting them to purchase our services. We want them to think of the little things that we do to take some of the stress out of the experience of having a pipe failure.”
